We’ve talked a lot about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) on this blog. We’ve given you tips and tricks on how to optimize your website for search engines and given you advice on how to update your website when it’s just not bringing in the traffic you’d hoped it would.
So today, we’re going to talk about why SEO is important in the first place, since we’re all doing it anyway!
Imagine what it would be like if no one could find your website with a simple Google search? There really wouldn’t be any point to your website would there? People who would normally love to find your company online and purchase from your online store, wouldn’t be able to find you, so really there would be little reason to exist online if no one could find you. That’s where search engine optimization comes in. You may do a lot of advertising and include your website’s URL on all published materials, from business cards and sales sheets to your social media accounts and even the side of your car, but if people don’t see those things, how will they find you?
Simply writing content and publishing it through your content management system isn’t enough. It doesn’t matter how long the content is, or even how well-written it is, you need to make sure that what your content is about is very specific to your business. Don’t talk about all of the aspects of your business all on one page, make sure you properly organize your website and include the most appropriate content on the relevant pages.
Make sure you do research into keywords, and find out what the most relevant keywords for your business are. Then, include those keywords within your content and when the search engines come to crawl your page, they will be able to index your page properly as they will know exactly what your content is all about. When done properly, search engine optimization can bring in the traffic and really make your online business a success.
